The Angora rabbit is a fascinating animal because of its coat, breeds, and personality. Angora rabbits have the oldest types of the domestic rabbit, originating in the Ankara, Turkey, Along with the Angora cat and Angora goat. These rabbits are English, French, giant and satin. Other breeds include German, Chinese, Swiss and Finnish, to name a few. Also these rabbits are popular pets with the French royalty in the mid 18th century. They first appeared in the United States in the 20th century.

Angora rabbits are bred for their wool because it is silky and soft. They have a really funny appearance, as they oddly resemble a pillow. Most of these rabbits are calm, but should be handled carefully. Grooming is necessary to prevent the fiber from matting and felting on the rabbit. A condition, wool block, is common in Angora rabbits, and should be treated quickly. Angora rabbits should be cut every three to four months through the year.

The breeds of the Angora rabbit are English, French, Giant, and Satin. German is also common but not ARBA recognized. The English ARBA-accepted varieties: ruby-eye white, pointed white, self, shaded, agouti, the weight of the English Angora rabbit is 2- 3.5 kg (4.4-7.7). The French Angora rabbits ABRA varieties are: agouti, pointed white, self, shaded, ticked, wide band, and broken, the weight: 3.5-4.5kg (7.7-9.9). Giant ARBA- accepted varieties: ruby-eyed white, The weight is 4.5 kg (9.9 IB) or larger. The last ARBA certified Angora breed is the Satin breed. The ARBA Varieties are: agouti, pointed white, self, shaded, sicked, wide band, the weight is 3-4.5 kg (6.6-9.9).

Angora rabbits are active, playful and social, with lots of personality. They enjoy attention of their owners, as well as the companionship of other rabbits, and often house Angoras will nap with a docile mannerved cat. They also enjoy having toys to play with.

We learned about the coat, breeds, and personality. Angora rabbits are one of the best angora wool. They can weigh anywhere from a minimum of 7 1/2 pounds to a maximum of 10 1/2 pounds at maturity. The ideal weight is 8 pounds. Be sure to comb their wool or it will get matted and out of control on you. They love to be brushed. Mine would always come to you and you can litter box train them like a cat.
